Summer Highlights

Clipart image of a sun. Summer is always a busy time at ITTIP with workshops and conferences!  In June, Dr. Leach and Ms. Playton traveled to the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) conference in San Antonio to conduct a presentation on Problem-based Learning and Hummingbird Robotics – based on the the PISTEM projects ITTIP implemented for two years.  ISTE is a wonderful conference and is full of new technologies and ideas to bring back to our schools.

We also started our SCHEV grant project, Inspiring Teachers for Engaged Learners (InTEL), in June and continued in July.  We can’t wait to see what innovative ideas the InTEL teachers bring to the classroom this year!

The third and final cohort  of the MSP project, Innovative Mathematics Partnership for Rural Elementary Schools (IMPRES), started in June.  The participating teachers continue to dedicate a lot of time and effort in improving their teaching practice for the benefit of their students.

Dr. Leach had the opportunity to conduct a session at the Americorps STEM Explore Camp held at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC) in July.  Elementary students had a fun time learning about coding with the littleBits robotics kit.

For more information on these projects, check out our summer newsletter! We are looking forward to a busy fall season as we write grants for future projects, work with our teachers from this summer, and explore new student programs.
