Science Collaborative for Innovative and Enhanced Content Excellence: K-5 (SCIEnCE)

The Longwood University College of Arts and Sciences and the Institute for Teaching through Technology and Innovative Practices (ITTIP) at Longwood University, was awarded Science Collaborative for Innovative and Enhanced Content Excellence: K-5 (SCIEnCE). In partnership with four local school divisions (Amelia, Buckingham, Cumberland, and Nottoway), SCIEnCE will provide sustained science professional development to twenty elementary teachers.

The teachers participated in a week-long institute at Longwood University focused on science content (based on division needs), the nature of science, using technology in the science classroom, and performance assessment strategies. Teachers strengthened their own science content knowledge during the school year and were part of an online professional learning community through the use of the National Science Teacher Association (NSTA) Teacher Learning Journeys.
